Welcome to SPEC's Climate Change Information Centre!

Life on earth is made possible by energy from the sun, whish arrives mainly in the form of visible light. About 30 per cent of the sunlight is scattered back into space by the outer atmosphere, but the rest reaches the earth's surface, which reflects it in the form of infared radiation. (This sort of energy that comes from a lamp or electric grill.) Infared radiation would normally escape into space, but as the concentrations of greenhouse gases (GHGs) rise, they delay the escape of this energy, causing the atmosphere to warm.

SPEC wants to raise awareness of climate change and energy conservation. We are part of the City of Vancouver's Cool Vancouver Task Force; a coalition of government, community groups and businesses, whose goal is to prepare concrete action plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the region in line with the Kyoto Protocol and to promote clean energy use.

"SPEC's Climate Change Centre" can shows how we can participate in actions to protect our cliamte.
