About the SPEC Building

The SPEC building at 2150 Maple Street is a unique, real-world demonstration centre for green building techniques, renewable energy technologies, energy conservation, container gardening and more. The building acts as an office for several non-profit groups, an information centre, and a community meeting space.

Location

SPEC is located in the heart of Kitsilano at the corner of 6th and Maple. We overlook Maple Community Garden and are home to the Compost Demonstration Garden run by City Farmer. We are close to shops and restaurants on 4th avenue and Broadway, and are only a short distance from downtown Vancouver.

Access

SPEC can be conveniently accessed by a number of bus routes (#4, #7, #9, #17, #16) and two bike routes (Cypress and 7th Avenue). Bike racks are also available, as is limited parking. We strongly encourage you consider carpooling to our building if you can’t bus or bike. Additional parking can be found on the street and/or at Capers, Safeway and Burrard and 5th Cinema. Our building is also wheelchair accessible.

Room Rental

The SPEC Building has a Boardroom and a Multipurpose Room available for bookings seven days a week.

• Non-profit discounts available
• 10% discount off the total cost when you purchase 5 or more bookings at one time

• Access to coffeemaker, teapot, and microwave (please bring anything else you might need and see our pack-it-in-pack-it-out policy on the room rental contract)

Multipurpose Room

The Multipurpose Room is approximately 660 square feet and can seat 50-60 people. This room is often used by larger group meetings, yoga, massage and meditation groups. Chairs and folding tables are provided.

Weekdays Fees

• $30/hour for profit groups. All day discount price (9 am - 5 pm) $180
• $20/hour for Non-Profit Organization. All day discount price $120

Weekends Fees

• $35 hour for profit groups. All day discount (9 am - 5 pm) $210
• $25 for Non-Profit Organization. All day $150

Board Room

The Board Room measures 176 square feet and seats 12 around a large board room table, perfect for a smaller meeting group or workshop.

Weekdays and Weekend Fees

• $20/hour for profit groups. All day (9 am - 5 pm) $120
• $15/hour Non-Profit Organization. All day (9 am - 5 pm) $90

Cancelation Policy

• Room bookings are only guaranteed after payment.
• Cancelation: Booked 2 days or less/month: Cancellation must occur at a minimum of 14 days before the first booked date for refund. Booked 3 days or more/month: Bookings larger then 3 days/month may only be refunded with 30 days cancelation notice. If cancellation occurs within less then 30 days of the first booked day, only 50% of the booking fee will be reimbursed for the cancelled days.

Shared Office Space

The SPEC building also offers affordable office cubicles for rent in our basement. Our cubicles are approx 10ft by 10ft, big enough to fit one or two desks, plus a bookcase. Rent is $175/month, plus $10/mo for internet. Rent is on month to month basis. Please note that Non-Profit Organizations are given priority on the waiting list. Depending on availability, SPEC also offers free booking access to our Multipurpose Room and Board Room.
