The B.C. Post-Consumer Residual Stewardship Program Regulation requires producers of specific types of hazardous products (solvents/flammable liquids, domestic pesticides, gasoline and pharmaceuticals) to provide consumers with a safe and convenient method to manage unwanted products.
As a result there are industry-funded return centres located in communities across British Columbia that take back products included under the regulation.
In order to be accepted at the return centre, the pesticide product must have 2 symbols on its label. The first is a Pest Control Product (PCP)/Registration Number. All pesticides registered for use in Canada have a PCP Number (see example to the right). The second symbol is the skull and cross bones symbol, signifying that the product is poisonous. Products that do not have both of these symbols on the label are not currently accepted at return centres. The maximum container size currently accepted at depots is 10 Litres.
Check the Product Care website for details on the return centre in your area or call the BC Recycling Hotline 1-800-667-4321 or 604-RECYCLE (604-732-9253). Please note there is no charge to drop off accepted pesticides at the return centres.
