Description: What does it mean for seeds to be heirloom, hybrid, open-pollinated, organic or conventional? Make sense of those seed catalogs while learning the best ways to start your garden from seed, both indoors and out. In addition to hands-on practice, students will learn the botany of plant reproduction (what the birds and bees are actually doing), and practice several methods of vegetative propagation, for both annuals and perennials.
Instructor: Lis Thomas is a horticulturist who worked in community greening in NYC before moving to Vancouver. She is currently running the YWCA Metro Vancouver Rooftop Food Garden and is also studying post-industrial soil remediation as part of an MSc. in Plant Science.
